At Fantastic Home Learning, your child can benefit from bespoke face-to-face online tuition via Zoom, delivered by a qualified, experienced primary school teacher.
It is becoming increasingly clear that remote teaching during the pandemic has been inconsistent across schools, and you may feel your child just needs a little extra help to catch up on missed learning. I am here to help.
Whether you want to book regular term-time or holiday sessions for your child, would like your child to participate in an intensive course, or prefer to arrange ad-hoc tuition, it is worth getting in touch.
To book an introductory session or to check availability for regular sessions, please click on 'Book Lessons' below.
You can book tuition during the day at a time to suit you via the Bookings Page.
English is a core subject which allows access to the rest of the curriculum. Whatever your child’s interests and talents, a solid basis in English skills can make all the difference to his or her progress in communication and academic life.
If your child would benefit from support with reading, comprehension, vocabulary, spelling, grammar, punctuation, speaking or writing skills, then let me help him or her by way of bespoke tuition, tailored to your child's needs, age and ability. Get in touch to arrange an introductory session.
It is all too common for children to develop a fear of mathematics, which can follow them throughout their whole lives.
My maths sessions are designed to build up children’s confidence by way of tailored lessons to build up their skills in key areas, which could include mental arithmetic, formal written methods of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, fractions, decimals, percentages, ratio, proportion, algebra, measurement, geometry, and/or statistics, as well as problem solving.
Get in touch to book an introductory session and to let me know your child’s needs, for example if a particular area has been identified in a school report, or if you simply want me to consolidate your child's learning across the board.
Depending on the area in which you live, the 11+ exam (also known as the ‘Transfer Test’) may determine whether or not your child is eligible for the secondary school of your choice. There are many different approaches to 11+ tutoring. I am happy to support your child by way of ad-hoc, intensive or regular sessions to suit your own approach to this important exam.
Individual regular weekly sessions in the term-time can be booked via the Bookings Page. I also offer holiday sessions, which can be booked via the Booking page. Depending on the amount of time available before the 11+, regular sessions will usually begin by focusing on your child’s subject knowledge, before working up to tackling different types of exam questions and finally working on the speed of completion of these types of questions.
It is common for 11+ tutors to set around two hours’ of homework to be completed by children during the week in-between sessions. If you would like me to do this, I will recommend specific books which you will need to purchase on top of the costs of the tuition, and I will set homework based on these books. To avoid taking time away from your child’s tuition session, any homework must be marked by you. (This will also help you become more involved in your child’s preparation for the exam, and allow you to get a feel for your child's progress).
However, I appreciate that some children will have longer school days, more homework already set by their school, or clubs and sporting commitments which would make additional homework impossible. I am happy to work with you in your individual circumstances, and homework is therefore not a compulsory part of my 11+ sessions, although I will recommend vocabulary learning and regular reading to all pupils!
Intensive booster courses will usually focus on exam technique. These are suitable for children who are close to taking their 11+. Intensive booster courses can be booked via the Booking page.
Whether your child has received tuition or not, you may feel that he or she would benefit from an intensive 11+ booster course in the run-up to the exam.
Booster courses usually take place over the summer holidays immediately preceding the 11+, however, please enquire if you would be interested in your child receiving this tuition at another time.
Is your child gifted or talented? Would your child benefit from individual tuition to challenge and stretch him or her? Does your child have a particular interest that he or she would like to pursue in greater depth?
Sometimes, children who are gifted and talented may struggle at school due to a lack of challenge. This has the potential to set back an attitude to learning which may do more harm in the long-run. Get in touch to let me know your educational goals so we can discuss how tailored sessions could support your child.
I am a huge fan of home education and have first-hand experience of how beneficial it can be to children in a whole range of situations. Regular Maths and/or English tuition may be particularly appropriate for your child if, due to the pandemic, you have a particular reason to remove your child from his or her existing school but find yourself unable to provide your child’s education yourself.
Primary school timetables usually schedule an hour of English and an hour of Maths every week day during term time. I can replicate this model for your child and follow the national curriculum for England for your child’s year group (or another curriculum of your choice on an agreed basis). If you block-book four or more sessions a week for a half-term or term period, you will be entitled to a 10% discount on usual tuition fees for that period.
Please get in touch if you would be interested in booking tuition in English and Maths in support of your child's home education.
I can also provide tuition on a group basis of up to two children if you arrange the group. Whilst it would usually make most sense for these groups to be made up of children of a similar ability and age, in the case of home educated siblings, I would be happy to discuss with you possibilities such as splitting a session between siblings.
For more information about the government’s rules on educating your children at home, see the government’s website.
If you wish to book an introductory session, holiday session, regular English, Maths or 11+ tuition, or an intensive 11+ course, you can do this via the Bookings page here. If you wish to book regular day-time English or Maths sessions for your home-educated child, or an English or Maths course for children who are self-isolating or unable to go to school during temporary closures, please enquire about these by filling out the Contact Form here.
Please note that availability for a particular session is not guaranteed until you have paid for it in advance. All sessions are payable in full in advance, and there are only limited circumstances in which cancelled sessions can be rescheduled, so please do consider booking an introductory session before making a block booking.
Block bookings are usually released on a half-termly basis, and you must book a regular session for every week of that half-term period (for example, if you wish to book a session for 7am on a Monday, then you will need to book and pay in advance for a session at 7am every Monday during that particular half-term period).
A session will only be reserved for you once you have booked and paid for it in advance, meaning that if you book a particular time and day slot in one half-term period, there is no guarantee that you will be able to get the same time and day slot in another half-term period, although I will always try to accommodate any specific requests.
You can book a one-off mock interview on our Bookings Page.
